      Verdict

Cases can be made for a number these but there could be any amount of improvement to come from Haadef, who is selected to find enough improvement to hold off Swagger Stick and Balkan Knight, who are both hard to ignore on recent form. The same has to be said of Swift Tango and Alkaased, who both have the ability to figure in a race like this and are worth considering to at least make the frame. Royal Cavalier is another that has gone very well here in the past and he will raise the roof if he can again spring a surprise if coming out on top again today. However, he is now on a very restricting mark and others look to hold stronger claims today. Grampian is another to take a serious look at as he was far from disgraced when finishing second behind Muqbil last time and faces nothing of the quality of that rival here. Even so, like Councel's Opinion, he has his share of weight today and may find himself vulnerable to a less exposed type. Which brings us back to Haadef, who hails from a yard that would not be sending him up from Manton if they did not think he were up to the task today. John Gosden, who won this race in 1998 with Perfect Paradigm, has a cracking strike-rate with these lightly races sorts and it will be no surprise to see Haadef brush aside his rating of 99 - especially when his 13lb weight-for-age allowance is factored in.
