Only a neck separated KASPERENKO and Arctic Fox over 2m here last month. Neither looked like catching an easy winner that day but both have a chance in an open-looking finale. Shake A Leg won twice in the spring and will handle this step up in trip while Desert Quest arrives on a hat-trick but is upped in grade. Vaynor couldn’t cope with a further 6lb rise at Newbury in July but Shibuya Song should go well if cheekpieces produce the desired effect. Night Sparkle’s progress appears to have stalled, however, while all-weather specialist Melakaz will likely need this.
Arctic Fox 5-1 (9-8) Rear mid-division, headway over 3f out, ridden well over 1f out, stayed on one pace, 4th of 11, 6 1/4l behind Run For Oscar (9-9) at Haydock 2m hcp (4) gd in Aug.
Melakaz (IRE) 10-3 (8-5) Tracked leader, led over 5f out, wide into straight 2f out, ridden and headed entering final furlong, driven and rallied to lead again close home when edged right, won at Lingfield 1m 4f hcp (4) pol in Feb beating Marion's Boy (9-6) by nk, 6 ran.
Night Sparkle (IRE) 10-3 (9-5) Prominent, nudged along over 3f out, driven 2f out, kept on without troubling winner, 2nd of 4, 3 1/2l behind Whimsy (9-0) at Salisbury 1m 4f hcp (4) gf in Aug.
Vaynor (IRE) 9-1 (8-8) Chased winner until 8f out, outpaced 3f out, no impression final 2f, 5th of 6, 5 1/4l behind Zain Nights (9-5) at Newbury 1m 4f hcp (4) gf in Jul.
Shibuya Song 4-1 (9-7) Awkwardly away, tracked winner, pushed along over 2f out, ridden to join winner inside final furlong, just held, 2nd of 5, shd behind Moonlit Warrior (9-8) at Lingfield 1m 5f hcp (5) pol in Aug.
