In depth

Verdict

A fairly competitive fillies handicap in which Mana Pools is handed the vote ahead of chief rival Rani Two while Top Of The Class and Compton Eclaire are others to consider. Jeremy Glover's charge is far from a straightforward ride but the four-year-old has done little wrong of late having had no luck in running after scoring convincingly at Lingfield on the Polytrack surface in February. The daughter of Brief Truce was stuck in a pocket on a return visit to the Surrey venue and also found trouble when coming late to snatch third at Beverley earlier in the month. The selection remains well treated on the same handicap mark and should make her presence felt at this lower grade so looks the one to beat. Rani Two is clearly on the upgrade at present having followed a comfortable Chester victory with a fine second at Nottingham off a 5lb higher mark. Mark Brisbourne's charge loos sure to be thereabouts once again while Top Of The Class also merits respect despite a 10lb hike for an impressive eight-length success in an amateurs' event at Haydock last time. Compton Eclaire is still a maiden but remains unexposed and ran promisingly on her handicap debut at Newcastle so also enters calculations from the foot of the handicap.
