Plenty of these come here in good form and from a shortlist of Birkside, Haarth Sovereign and VALDAN, it is the last-named who is taken to emerge victorious. David Evans' gelding disappointed last time out at Carlisle having previously won well at Thirsk. He incurred an 8lb rise in the weights for that success which may mean that he is not necessarily well handicapped, however the return to a flatter track will suit and quick ground also poses no problems. Gordonsville is another who needs to bounce back from a below-par latest run, whilst Demolition and Lochiel may now be high enough in the weights. Record Breaker continues to run well in defeat and Mark Johnston's gelding is dropping in class today. Bergonzi needs a market check with the stable in good form, whilst Birkside's latest run came in small field and Linda Perratt will need to get some improvement out of him. Recent winners Haarth Sovereign and Persian Peril need to be considered, but in a tricky race it is Valdan who is narrowly preferred.
