In depth

Verdict

Caprio has an obvious chance at the weights but preference is for NEWBURY STREET ahead of Cawdor. The selection receives plenty of weight from his principal rivals and comes here on the back of a narrow success in a similar contest at Carlisle. The form looks solid enough despite the presence of a 200-1 shot in second and Newbury Street could have too much firepower for this opposition. Caprio has been a real money spinner for connections in similar contests but only one of his victories has come on turf and he looks worth opposing as a result although it should be said that he has finished second on no fewer than four occasions so it can't be said that he doesn't act on grass. Cawdor looked a fair sort when winning a soft ground handicap for Henry Candy in October and won a claimer well enough on his penultimate start over course and distance before a disappointing run last time. He has live claims if bouncing back to his best but preference is for Newbury Street.
