Verdict

SOUTER POINT gets our vote in this opening race on the card whilst Sahrati and Hilfiger should provide some opposition. Souter Point is in first time blinkers and it is hoped that this will help him run a better line after having drifted at Ascot last time out. He only lost by just over a length that day to Alhaque and it remains to be seen what the true value of that form is. He is rated a lot higher than most of his rivals in this race and should perform well. Sahrati ran a fairly decent race at Kempton last time out when finishing third of seven. The trip though is unlikely to suit given that he has not had a race since February. Additionally this gelding has only ever won over shorter distances than today's contest and is opposed. Hilfiger put in a good effort at Uttoxeter in his last outing but will need to find a bit extra to challenge for the victory today. Ian Williams does not have the greatest of records at Newton Abbot but his runner in this race is worth a second look. Saltagioo has placed twice in his last two outings and may figure in the placings. On recent form and potential though, we point towards Souter Point as our selection in this contest.
