Verdict

Mazaris has had quite a few chances so far and returns to a mile here in an attempt to break his duck, but he is clearly vulnerable and we'll take him on with debutant PINK IVORY. The Godolphin-owned filly is started over a perfect trip for one who is also likely to improve over further. The yard could not be in much better shape, her pedigree is top drawer, and she is likely to be pretty well wound up to do herself justice on debut. Mazaris has plenty of solid form to bring to the contest and would not be a surprise winner, as he has the strongest claim of those with experience, but after six defeats he is worth taking on. Azure Mist has very similar credentials to Mazaris, a string of decent efforts in defeat, mainly over further than this, though she should be at home over a mile and she reverts to maidens after being held in handicaps. Quail Landing has potential if she is straight enough after a break, while Welsh Opera has decent course form and her yard is in better nick than when she last ran, so is not discounted. Even so, we'll take a chance on Pink Ivory to get it right first time.
