If there are any punters left standing by this stage they can't rely on this contest for respite as only one favourite has won this in 11 years. Low numbers generally have the call, though soft ground could give those with a high berth an advantage. MIDLANDER looks the safest option as he acts on any ground and comes here with a 6lb penalty for gaining his fourth successive victory in a better-class handicap than this at Ascot on Friday. Mark Johnston also runs Showstoppa, who is tough and will like the conditions though his overall form doesn't quite match that of his stablemate. Judicial was unbeaten in three races last summer and makes his handicap debut from what could prove a lenient mark while Maljaa has only had four runs and proved he handles soft ground on his debut last season. Roudee won a handicap at this level on soft ground at Chester but is 9lb higher and Rathaath's two victories have been on very fast ground.
