Trainer Silvester Kirk won this race last season and has a good chance take it this year with EIGHTDAYSAWEEK who is our selection for this decent handicap but only just ahead of winning debutant Aboukir and Sherman McCoy. The selection ran well off this mark to find just one to good last time against similar opposition at Southwell. That was following a win over the same course and distance under a burden four pounds lighter and while it's not form to get too excited about it might just be enough this time. Aboukir seems to have been harshly treated for a close success on debut in a weak Southwell maiden but it is interesting that trainer Paul Cole has book Frankie Dettori for the ride so it looks as if a big run is expected. Sherman McCoy has been fairly treated in two starts in handicap company so far and the same can be said this time. A couple of placings in similar events on fast ground point to the fact he should win a race soon but he might need that mark to ease first. Arrogance finally looks weighted to be competitive after struggling under higher burdens but we marginally make preference for Eightdaysaweek.
