A fantastic juvenile Group race in which favourites have taken four of the last six renewals. Today we plump for CORPORAL MADDOX whose experience of different racetracks may stand him in good stead here. Karl Burke's progressive colt got going too late in France last time and it is easy to see why connections have stepped him back up in trip. This seventh furlong is an unknown but he certainly shapes as if he'll get it and with an Epsom win under his belt, he should handle this course better than some. Dreamspeed belied his inexperience and a slow start to run on strongly up the hill at Sandown earlier this month and this half-brother to Dream Eater is highly thought-of, whilst Chaperno represents the yard that took this race in 2007 and bought last year's winner. Big Audio lost his race in the dip at Newmarket last time and one would have to worry about how he will handle the course today, so the Chesham winner is taken on, as is Lucky General who was behind Roi De Vitesse in the Superlative Stakes as well last time out. Extension is interesting given his ability to win here on debut and he was then a gallant second in the Coventry Stakes; the step up in trip today should hold no fears for this son of Xaar. A 3lb weight allowance for the filly She's A Character may not be quite enough for Richard Fahey's runner to overhaul the boys, so a bigger threat may be Paul Cole's duo. Both have gone pretty much under the radar so far this season and of the pair it is Mata Keranjang who made his debut in a Deauville Listed contest who makes most appeal now up in trip. An exhilarating feast in store, where Corporal Maddox can stand to attention.
