Last year's winner Finjaan and the admirable Lord Shanakill may fare best of the older brigade, but the classic generation have accounted for six of the last 10 winners of this and we'll take RED JAZZ to enhance that record by beating fellow three-year-old Air Chief Marshal. The latter has returned to form in winning his last two starts and should be competitive stepped back up in grade but preference on this occasion is for Red Jazz. The Barry Hills-trained colt impressed when landing the European Free Handicap on his return and has acquitted himself well since. When last seen he took second to subsequent Group Two winner Premio Loco and the month break to freshen up is taken as a positive. Finjaan is unbeaten in two starts at the track including a victory in this last year but Balthazaar's Gift was only half a length back and doesn't have to concede weight-for-age this time. Dalghar is interesting at a price as a late-developing type who ran as well as could've been expected when ahead of Cat Junior at Royal Ascot. This drop back in trip will suit and he could sneak under the radar. Main Aim is a likeable horse who is at his best over seven furlongs but he looks just a shade short of Group Two class along with Lovelace, who has gone well here in the past. Riggins travelled beautifully in the Royal Hunt Cup and won on his only try here so couldn't be totally ruled out despite having a bit to do at the weights but in all likelihood Lord Shanakill will provide a bigger threat. Henry Cecil's charge took a while to master Dunelight at Chester and is 3lbs worse off but we expect him to frank that form in running a big race, although preference is for Red Jazz.
