Steig has the sort of profile that leaves punters scratching their heads, and it is hard to imagine that this drop to seven will suit, and so it is Vanadium who gets the vote ahead of Golden Desert. Whilst one is loathe to criticise the bonny Francesca Cumani (ring me), the selection may not have been given the best of rides last time and can be rated better than the bare result. Held up in the rear having dropped back to six, she found plenty of trouble and with Champion Jockey elect (I know, in June, but who are we kidding?) Ryan Moore in the saddle, a big run looks on the cards given a bit of market support. Golden Desert has claims, especially based on his fine recent second, however he is yet to win on the turf and he will do well to carry top-weight to victory today. Tony James has ability but his best trip is probably six furlongs, whilst Frankie looks an interesting booking for Gentle Guru who returns to the track today after a period off. Councellor is consistent and is well-treated compared to his all-weather mark, whilst Fleuret returns to the scene of her sole success but has a little to find with Tony James on their recent run. Manchurian could be capable of better, but he is likely to be far too short for a horse of his profile, and so for the winner we will return to Vanadium.
