In depth

Verdict

A terrific contest in prospect here with Oaks winner Light Shift taking on Nannina and French raider Mandesha among others and we take Light Shift to claim another Group 1 prize. Henry Cecil's filly was turned over last time in the Irish Oaks, when the hock deep ground was partially to blame. However, she handled good to soft well at Epsom and so if it does rain she will still be effective, just as she is on a sound surface as evidenced by her Cheshire Oaks win earlier. She can handle just about any track and her form is as good as anything here so she has plenty going for her on the drop back to 10f. Nannina excels over a mile and if this were over that trip then she would be a major player. She can help to put the pace to the race for our selection, but this trip really stretches her reserves of stamina and we will oppose. Mandesha will have no problems on that score and she has three Group 1 wins to her name in France over trips ranging from a mile to 12f. She is thoroughly consistent and therefore looks booked to be involved at the business end. Peeping Fawn is an Aidan O'Brien raider to take very seriously after beating the selection at The Curragh, and the drop back in trip should not inconvenience. Johnny Murtagh's booking is a plus but the nagging doubt is that ground on the fast side of good won't help her cause and with that appearing likely we will just oppose. The others need to find improvement to figure and Light Shift can come good again.
