The handicapper has taken few chances with Sandown winner Soft Morning here and preference is for Purple Emperor for in-form Godolphin, with Guiseppe Verdi, Fongs Gazelle and Happy Go Lily others considered. Purple Emperor put in a couple of decent efforts over 10f before winning here over shorter last time. It did not appear that it was the trip that beat him previously, so this step up to 1m 3f can be taken in his stride. His maiden success was easy and he won't have it the same way here, but his mark looks fair enough and he can find the necessary to score. Soft Morning put a disappointing soft ground effort behind her to score at Sandown last time and she has gone up 8lb as a result of that success. That makes today's task tough, but Sir Mark Prescott seems to find improvement in abundance at times and it would be a brave man to suggest he can't elicit enough to enable her to go close again. Fongs Gazelle swooped late to win over 9f here on Wednesday and carries a 6lb penalty. Now weighted up to the hilt, the filly will do well to lump that burden over an extra two furlongs. Happy Go Lily gets every yard of this trip and is in decent nick, but looks to have a bit to much weight, while Guiseppe Verdi looks a major player, raised 6lb for a running on success over 10f at Kempton last time out and improvement is entirely possible. But Godolphin have enjoyed a decent week so far and Purple Emperor can provide them with another winner.
