In depth

Verdict

Not a great contest, but intriguing nonetheless, and we will take a walk on the WILD SIDE OF LIFE who may oblige at a price, while Bench Warrent and the Paul Nicholls-trained pair Bold Policy and Bobby On The Beat will probably be popular with punters. The selection makes his British debut after joining Tim Vaughan from Edward O'Grady. In three runs over the water he ran pretty well twice, and perhaps the fast ground on his most recent outing was against him. It appears that cut suits him well, as does this sort of stamina test and now he has been freshened up by a change of scenery at a yard that is in good form we will take a chance on him. Bench Warrent has made the frame twice for Charlie Mann and has trip and ground to suit here after a decent effort at Plumpton last time. He may well be good enough to take this but his form is not frightening if you want to take him on and we are prepared to do so. Bold Policy looks the Nicholls first string on jockey bookings and has to put a disappointing Aintree effort behind him. However, that race was a different class to this and there is every chance that he will show up well here. Bobby On The Beat was a well beaten favourite at Wincanton last time and is stepped up further in trip. Conditions should suit but he has a bit to prove this afternoon. Aspiring Actor is a former Ditcheat inmate who makes his reappearance here for Jim Best after a three year absence. The trainer does well with horses of such a profile and the market should give us an idea as to what confidence there is today. Without that knowledge we'll side with Wild Side Of Life.
