In depth

Verdict

Pretty ordinary fare here, with none standing out off the racecard. Canon McCarthy has the right credentials though. Still a maiden over fences, the seven-year-old is by Be My Native and should therefore relish both the ground and the trip (he has generally been tried over further). Having run well off this mark previously, and with Timmy Murphy - one of the best chase jockeys there is - in the saddle, he is a tentative selection to break his duck. King Of The Dawn will have his supporters after his good Fontwell win and a second place here last time. Despite an 11lb rise for hose two runs, he is still on a winning mark here and should again be good enough to be placed. Auburn Spirit is another mudlark who has been running consistently up until recently. However, he is exposed and after being out of sorts he is overlooked on this occasion. Copper Shell has not won for almost two years, but has been running well enough off higher marks. Dropped to 85 for this, if he recovers some of his old zest then he too could be involved. Of the remainder Renaloo makes some appeal, though he may be a little too high in the weights to win here and also his best form seems to be over shorter, while Villair comes from a yard still in form, but also looks exposed at the moment.
