chased leaders, pushed along after 3f, outpaced halfway, never near leaders after
tracked leader, led briefly 2f out, no impression winner when edged left final furlong
led to 2f out, soon weakened under pressure
slowly away, soon in touch, hard ridden 4f out, soon weakened
pulled hard and settled last, ridden and no impression 3f out, stayed on from over 1f out, to take 3rd final 100 yards
held up, smooth headway 3f out, led going well inside final 2f, clear when edged left final furlong, driven out
held up, struggling halfway, tailed off
prominent, pushed along 3f out, weakened 2f out
Trainer John Best and his team have built up a solid reputation as shrewd judges when it come to placement of their horses so Royal Racer is given the benefit of the doubt as he returns to Folkestone for a third crack at some prize-money put up at the course in almost as many weeks. He faces no easy task today though and the likes of Got To Be Cash and Shape Up are capable of getting involved at this modest level. As is Encore Royale, who should have benefited from her reappearance effort 10 days ago and support for her should not be dismissed. However, Royal Racer has shown a genuine liking for striding out at this course and he can do his bit to confirm there is substance behind the old adage of supporting 'horses for courses'.
