Two big stables lock horns here and we just prefer the Barry Hills trained Thabaat ahead of the Chapple-Hyam runner Thunderbolt Jaxon, Encores may do best of the newcomers. Thabaat was beaten favourite in his two races to date but may have met a couple of decent types. Prince Forever, who beat him at Newbury, was well fancied for the Champagne Stakes at York and Slate, who got the better of him at Warwick, was unlucky when fancied for a hot handicap at Ascot. There may be nothing of that calibre in today's contest and he should lose his maiden tag. Thunderbolt Jaxon put in a solid first effort when third on his all-weather debut at Lingfield and is open to plenty of improvement. Encores is an interesting newcomer from the Neville Callaghan yard, being a well bred son of Tobougg and should be watched closely in the betting. However it does appear to be a two horse war and we expect Thabaat to come out on top this afternoon.
