In the opener, Stoneacre Lad is selected ahead of Count Cougar and Witchry. Witchry has fallen in the ratings and now races from a winning Turf mark. Much as his all-weather efforts have yet to match that, he can't be ruled out. The course and distance winner Count Cougar is on a role and, much as he has risen in the ratings, he looks set to go well today. Stoneacre Boy was just beaten by Egyptian Lord over course and distance two runs ago from a two pounds higher mark than today, and a repeat of that puts him in the mix. The Fisio has form enough to be considered, although he might be better at six furlongs these days, while Melachrist at least showed that he retains some ability with his latest start. Gifted Lass has it to prove from her revised mark and Maktavish is weighted to just reverse January course and distance form with her. Irish import Polar Fox could conceivably be well-weighted based on his hest bits of form but he showed little here on his British debut and a return to his best would not entirely rule out Never Without Me. Quite a competitive race, then, with the vote going to Stoneacre Lad.
