Verdict

Although not beating much at Warwick last Sunday, Mark Equal can follow up here against some inconsistent sorts and has most to fear from Extra Cache and Motcomb Jam. The selection spreadeagled his rivals last time out and may look a good thing to follow up under a penalty. Having won on firm and soft, the ground should not present a problem and the distance looks ideal. Those looking to take a short price about him should be wary of Extra Cache. The Owen Brennan-trained gelding would be odds-on here if he had shown the form recently he showed last season. However his performances this term have been dire to say the least and he cannot be backed with any sort of confidence. Motcomb Jam looks on the upgrade at present and ran a much better race in defeat last time out at Newbury than when winning the time before at this track and if continuing his improvement he could go close. So all other things being equal, Mark Equal is the selection but be wary of Extra Cache bouncing back to form.
