Topweight Lord Of Illusion is bound to be a popular choice among backers following his 12-length success of a Bangor novices' event last month. However, Tom George's son of Mister Lord has his fair share of weight under 11st 12lb and he may struggle to concede weight away all round. The unexposed Smokestack has claims after just four starts and will find this easier than the Sandown race won by Lord Sam he was involved in last time. That was at the beginning of December though and a combination of the long absence plus the continued poor form of the Jim Old stable hardly makes him a betting proposition. The Ron Hodges-trained Indoux would probably prefer a softer surface as would Nickit from the yard of Venetia Williams. Robert Alner is represented by two, Cinnamon Line and Diletia, with the latter looking the better bet of the two. The daughter of Dilum was twice successful here in October on fast ground and, although disappointing since, the return to a faster surface may bring about improvement in the six-year-old, who gets the nod in a trappy heat. Robber has claims on his best form and with the yard of Philip Hobbs back in form now could do better than recently. Dun An Doras looks the best of the remainder but is another who would prefer a softer surface.
