Andrew Balding sets a poser by saddling three runners in this handicap, Dumaran, Passing Glance and Highland Shot, with the first mentioned of that trio given the vote to follow up last year's success in this contest. Pat Eddery, who rides Epsom better than anybody else, has been booked for the ride on the son of Be My Chief, who clearly goes well here having finished third behind handicap "good thing" Lingo here earlier in the season. Now 2lbs lower, and only 6lbs higher than when beating Thihn (10lbs better for 2 lengths) in this race 12 months ago, he is taken to defy top weight. Highland Shot has been an admirably consistent performer this term and was recording her third win of the campaign when scoring at Sandown last week. However, a 5lb penalty gives her a stiffer task today. Kevin Ryan's Mystic Man has also been running well this term but appears to be in the grip of the handicapper if judged by his last time out running at Redcar and more solid claims are held by Pagan Sky from the in form stable of James Toller, although a draw nearer the rails would have been preferred.
