In depth

Verdict

Ornate beat a host of these when landing the 2019 renewal, including the other previous winners Caspian Prince and Duke Of Firenze. Blue De Vega, Recon Mission and Copper Knight also finished behind on that occasion and the latter was beaten by stablemate and runner-up Sunday Sovereign in soft ground at York more recently. Tim Easterby’s charge shares ownership with STONE OF DESTINY, who went close close in a small field at Goodwood last time and beat Yimou when landing last year’s Portland at Doncaster. He will need luck in-running but gets the nod given Only Spoofing is 9lb higher than when winning at Navan last month and Lord Riddiford hasn’t won on Turf since 2018, though can race off a much lower mark on this surface as a consequence.
