Dermot Weld has been unable to find a race for Waitaki despite several near misses. She's making her debut on the surface here so perhaps a change of fortune will be at hand. Almoner made an encouraging start here before just outpaced by Magic Bear last month and with further progress likely she should get into the frame. ELLARIA travelled well throughout on her debut here in October and though not finding a finishing burst she will have learnt plenty and Ger Lyons' filly looks to have the scope to go on to better things. Set To Fire has now had 17 starts and looks to have gone backwards but Madam Mcphee is a half-sister to four winning sprinters, each of them on the all-weather, and is a newcomer to keep an eye on.
