Better ground will suit Shifting Star who had looked a progressive individual before his Ayr flop, however BOND CITY is still well-treated on old form and gets the vote over Ishetoo, Ponty Rossa and Bel Cantor. Geoff Oldroyd's gelding is rated 98, still one pound lower than when successful as a four-year-old at Epsom. Only beaten by three lengths at Redcar last time in a Listed contest won by Il Warrd, the drop back to this trip will suit and his young jockey seems to be building a good rapport with him. Zomerlust is well-treated on old form but not firing at the moment, comments that are also applicable to Rising Shadow and Dhaular Dhar. Ishetoo ran a fair race behind Hamish McGonagal in the York Sprint Cup but his best form is over the minimum trip, so a bigger danger could be Against The Grain who has a nine pound rise in the weights to deal with after waltzing home in the Ayr Gold Cup last time. He is unexposed as a sprinter and is interesting, especially if there is a bit more rain. Bel Cantor is a gutsy front-runner but is probably high enough in the weights now, whilst Great Charm and Shifting Star are the leading three-year-olds in the line-up. Expect improvement from Ponty Rossa after a run to blow away the cobwebs at Hamilton, however it is Bond City whose backers will need no solace.
