      Verdict

      This looks to rest between two colts with almost identical profiles in Altaayil and FOREVER NOW. Both are trained by masters of their profession and ridden by Classic-winning pilots, both are the sons of famous Derby winners and both showed significant progress on their second outings when finishing runner-up behind potentially useful sorts. There really is little to choose between them, but the Gosden colt was perhaps a little unlucky at Newmarket behind Wonderstruck and is awarded the narrowest of nods. Kagami, Limousine and Asteroidea have all shown promise and should fight out the battle for the remainder of the prize money.

      Asteroidea 100-1 (8-11) Held up in touch on inside, not clearest of runs on inner and squeezed through 2f out, not clear run again and switched right off rail over 1f out, stayed on inside final furlong, went 2nd final 100 yards, no chance with winner, 2nd of 7, 3 1/2l behind Roseburg (9-5) at Pontefract 1m 2f 3yo mdn (5) gd in Apr.
