A tricky sprint to conclude the card and the nomination here is GREAT CHARM, who relishes cut in the ground and races over his optimum trip. Michael Bell's gelding has shown progressive form this season, especially when there has been juice in the ground, winning at both Ripon and Haydock. He wasn't far away in a more valuable contest at Newmarket's July meeting, before finishing second in his group as the runners split back at Ripon last time. A 1lb drop won't do him any harm and he is the suggestion. Although jockey bookings suggest he is Richard Fahey's second string, Mister Hardy has trip and ground to suit and his jockey's claim still gives him a bit of a chance of following up a recent Hamilton win, while stablemate Total Impact looks better suited by five furlongs and fast ground. Main Aim drops back in trip to this six furlongs for the first time, and neither that nor the ground is certain to be to his advantage. Earlsmedic has run up a hat-trick for Stuart Williams and sneaks in here after rising a total of 18lb in the handicap. Conditions should suit and if he can handle this tougher company then he can go close. Grazeon Gold Blend has frame claims once more, Joseph Henry looks in the grip of the assessor, and mudlark Swift Princess looks likely to have more of a say in the outcome. Berbice is interesting from a good pitch now tried in blinkers for the first time, but preference here is for Great Charm. (Jonathan Doidge)
