In depth

Verdict

Godolphin have a potentially useful type on their hands in the shape of Tufton, who is selected in preference to Catspraddle and Grantley Adams. That said, Charles Darwin has shown a good attitude and he can also play a leading role if he can get some cover in this small field. Grantley Adams has done well for Mick Channon and is effective in this grade. He is likely to lay his stall out early and make this a good test. However, he is now exposed and vulnerable to an improver. Catspraddle being a very interesting type to note on this occasion. The Richard Hannon-trained filly has an American pedigree but handled some give underfoot when she made a winning debut at Windsor last month. She missed an engagement at Sandown earlier in the week and comes here for the better ground. Which could be a clue in itself. However, Tufton has experience of the trip and he just edges the vote today. He is out of a half-sister to the high-class Mujahid and makes plenty of appeal as he has bags of scope to improve over this trip.
