      Verdict

      Hamilton maiden winner Caerlaverock was slightly disappointing on his handicap debut at Pontefract last month but first time blinkers may help Alan Swinbank's gelding and he has to be respected but it is hard to get away from KING FINGAL, who gets the vote with the main danger rated as Force Group. The Mark Tompkins-trained gelding held his form well after back-to-back wins at Pontefract a year ago and he has claims on his reappearance off a fair mark. Alan McCabe's Autumn Harvest looks a shade high in the weights following his run at Carlisle last month and of more interest may be Mark Johnston's Yes Mr President, who begins the season on a reasonable mark and comes from a stable in good form. Richard Hannon's Cape Colony is hard to back on recent efforts and a better option looks to be King Fingal. John Quinn's gelding found all sorts of trouble in running at York last month and, granted a clear run today in a much smaller field, he can gain compensation for his unlucky defeat last time.
