LAZY DARREN could be very nicely treated now back on the flat and Chris Grant's gelding is preferred to Never Ending Tale and Saltagioo. Rated 123 over hurdles, the selection races off a mark of 76 here now back on the level and judging by his progress over the jumps that mark may be lenient. He should have no problem with underfoot conditions, stays this trip well, and should run a big race. Never Ending Tale is fitted with cheek-pieces after a second place finish at Wolverhampton last time (carried head high); he is unexposed and it would be no surprise to see him run another big race. Ellmau has the form in the book which would see him go close if at his best, Overrule's latest run was disappointing so he needs to bounce back to form, whilst Annibale Caro is at the right end of the weights and his Kelso win over hurdles in April showed that he retains his enthusiasm at the age of seven. Saltagioo heads the weights but this looks an easier assignment than recent engagements and with his last run being franked since by the winner, he should go close, along with Can Can Star who is just 2lb above his highest winning mark but has only won once in twenty turf starts (five all-weather wins). This looks a good chance for Lazy Darren to make a winning return.
