Verdict

Deauville, a Grade 1 winner at Belmont in July, gained his first subsequent victory in the Group 3 Huxley Stakes at Chester but faces tougher opposition here. His stable companion Johannes Vermeer, a Group 1 winner as a juvenile, was having only his second start since that year when last of four behind Minding at Naas earlier this month and that should have blown away the cobwebs. Moonlight Magic finished runner-up in that latter event without looking a likely winner and was behind Success Days in a Group 3 here in August. The latter finished an excellent third in this a year ago and, if the ground turns soft, could snatch a place. Another Ballydoyle entry, Somehow, looked better than ever in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket and didn't look to be firing on all cylinders in last week's Lockinge Stakes so can do better but DECORATED KNIGHT went to Dubai during the winter and won the Group 1 Jebel Hatta before finding the Dubai Turf too tough. He's capable of making further progress and can take this sub-standard Group 1 for Roger Charlton.
