In depth

Verdict

MAC SWINEY hasn't won since landing the 2000 Guineas here last May but still has an official rating of 117. He's performed almost exclusively at Group 1 level since that day with a close third in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket the highlight. Bear Story finished in front of Jim Bolger’s charge in the Tattersall’s Gold Cup here last month after three successive defeats behind Layfayette. His overall form doesn’t quite match that of the selection while Rumbles Of Thunder looks best on ground with give so plenty of rain is needed. Duke De Sessa found a mile too short in the 2000 Guineas here and a fast gallop would play to his strengths.
