In depth

Verdict

If any horse deserved to get his head in front last year it was COLOUR SERGEANT, placed in all six starts including when half-a-length behind Van Gogh in a Curragh maiden. The winner went on to land the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud and is now rated 114 so Ger Lyons' charge won't get a better chance to lose his maiden tag. Van Gogh's yard is represented by Modus Operandi, a 700,000gns son of Frankel who caught the eye with his opening run at Naas in November and is in the Dante and the Irish Derby. Hamidabad is by Oasis Dream out of a middle-distance winner from the family of Harzand while stable companion Mitigated Risk is related to five winners including the high-class Fascinating Rock.
