Brecon Beacon can beat Cupid's Glory, with Subpoena and Josh likely to make their presence felt as well. Paul Cole won this event 12 months ago with Peter Paul Rubens, and will be optimistic of doubling up with Brecon Beacon who has the edge in race-fitness over main rival Cupid's Glory. The son of Spectrum got his career off to a flyer last year, winning his first two races, and went on to score at Newmarket. Runner up in first-time blinkers in the Britannia Stakes at the Royal meeting, he failed to handle the soft ground when a neck behind Cupid's Glory at Goodwood, but back on this faster surface he should comfortably come out on top. Cupid's Glory was well placed as a juvenile, landing four of his seven starts, with his biggest success to date coming in the Group 3 Horris Hill at Newbury. Blinkers for the first time failed to have the desired effect on his return to action in the aforementioned race at Goodwood three weeks ago, but he was in all probability in need of the run. However, the key to him is soft ground and it is strange that connections are even risking him on this faster going. Subpoena has disappointed so far, but with Godolphin's inmates faring better now, he should at least give a good account. The rest make less appeal, and it is Brecon Beacon who gets the vote.
