It was only a seller that LAUBERHORN won at Lingfield on Saturday but Eve Johnson's Houghton's gelding won it well and he may be good enough to defy the penalty for that success getting the vote ahead of stable companion Baltic Ben and Il Portico. Mick Channon's gelding has shown improved form in handicaps this season but a 2lb rise since his latest effort when second at Hamilton looks harsh so he may be best watched. Richard Hannon's Helaku is unexposed after just three starts and may do better now running in a handicap but he needs to improve to trouble the judge. Bryn Palling's Mr Maximas ran better when put into this grade for the first time at Nottingham last month and has to be considered along with John Dunlop's Spring Heather, who is another racing in a handicap for the first time. Hugh Morrison's Bethlehem is another worthy of a mention, although more solid claims are probably held by Baltic Ben. Eve Johnson's Houghton's gelding ran much better in a Thirsk maiden last time and has every chance in a handicap for the first time off a mark of 55 under Patrick Hills but stable companion Lauberhorn won so well at Lingfield on Saturday that he is taken to win again.
