These Pertemps qualifiers are always well contested and several have decent claims in this. Gordon Elliott has sent over Jury Duty, who won easily at Navan back in November. Splash of Ginge has run a couple of good races at Haydock recently but there are going concerns surrounding the in-form Soupy Soups and 3m on soft going may also prove too much for Abbreviate. Surtee Du Berlais won’t mind conditions, however, or the step back up in distance while Gayebury is unexposed. Rolling Maul will no doubt be going forward from the outset but he’s often let down by his jumping. BALLYCULLA catches the eye at the foot of the weights with Tom Greatrex taking off a further 7lb. He kept on for pressure reverting to hurdles in a Grade 3 at Sandown last time and has been dropped a further pound by the handicapper since. Red Hanrahan may have needed his reappearance and better is expected here.
