      Verdict

      FEDERAL LAW is the one to beat if staying the extra furlong despite carrying a penalty. He won a novices' race over 7f at Salisbury before failing to threaten in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and is now rated 99. Lord Lamington has finished closest of the others with experience though still has plenty of improving to do to figure and a newcomer may prove a bigger threat with Luca Cumani’s colt Felix preferred to Buckman Tavern.
