Archie Babe (IRE) Tough sort who won twice at Newcastle and twice at Pontefract last season. Will not mind the ground but may just need a run or two to get him straight.
Nowell House Racing off the same mark as when fourth in the November Handicap last year and comes here fit from hurdling, having been successful at Sedgefield last month. Loves the mud and looks the one they all have to beat here.
Rum Punch Another who has been hurdling, but without much promise. Formerly with Sir Michael Stoute, but has shown little encouragement for new connections.
Evening Scent A couple of wins on soft ground last autumn, but is stepping up in trip today. Placed over hurdles last month and one to consider providing she stays.
Pretty Obvious Won three times at around two miles back in '99, on all sorts of going. Would have an excellent chnace on that form, but recent hurdling efforts suggest she may not be at her best at the moment.
Wigman Lady (IRE) Cheaply bought filly. Modicum of form with Mel Brittain in three starts, the last of which was ten months ago. First run for new stable and has a bit to find.
Wethaab (USA) Only winning form has come on firm ground and pulled up on soft over hurdles in November so it would be a big surprise if he was able to win in these conditions.
Simple Ideals (USA) Had some fair form towards the end of last season and stays this trip okay. Outside chance, although having his first run for a while and racing from a couple of pounds wrong in the weights.
Mels Baby (IRE) Off the track for nearly a year and hasn't won since '97, so impossible to back him here.
Papi Special (IRE) Holds some claims on his best form last season, including sole win at Hamilton. Now running off a lower mark and has a reasonable chance if forward enough to show his best.
Ribble Assembly Hurdles winner last autumn but has not raced since Boxing Day and faces a stiff task here from out of the handicap.
Three Cherries Yet to reach the frame in numerous attempts and virtually no chance in this.
