Verdict

SIR DERRICK didn't show much in his first campaign but looks to have done well over the winter and was going on nicely on his handicap debut over 6f at Ripon. That should have brought him to concert pitch and he can take care of Christmas Night, who returned to action with a narrow defeat at Wolverhampton when conceding the winner 8lb. Viking Way was well beaten in his three starts last term but almost led all the way on his handicap debut at Newcastle last month so has to be on the shortlist along with Claramara, who broke a blood vessel on her final start at Newcastle after a couple of narrow defeats earlier.
