Aleron is a game sort who won well at Musselburgh last time, but an 8lb rise in the weights looks somewhat harsh and he may struggle to follow up here. Lost Spirit showed he is not just an all-weather horse when second at Folkestone last time, and will no doubt try to force the issue again here. However, that could just play in the hands of Hattington, who hasn't raced this season but can be expected to put up a good performance here. He is no less than 16 pounds better off with Aleron for a three length defeat at Catterick on his last start, not including the 5lbs that useful claimer Dave Allan takes off his back, and this step back to a mile and a half should suit him well. Trusted Mole found a mile and a quarter too short at Pontefract last time, but has claims on his earlier Ripon win and he looks to be the main danger to the selection, Hattington.
