Verdict

Conditions are spot on here for Secret Pact to break his duck, with Rowan Lodge and Mitchelland the only others making any real appeal. Mark Johnston's charge has begun his career well enough, with three runs under his belt now, and despite not being one of the yard's top runners he can still pay his way. The drop back to almost six furlongs here will probably suit for now and a repeat of his second to Selkirk Storm on heavy ground at Newcastle in May would give him every chance. Rowan Lodge ran well enough with cut at Thirsk earlier in the campaign to suggest he will not be unduly inconvenienced here. Mark Tompkins has him in decent form at present, having landed a Brighton maiden and then being short-headed for second at Folkestone last time out, so he will be on the premises and should give the selection most to do. Of the remainder Mitchelland also makes appeal in that he has won on this sort of surface at Newcastle in April and been close enough with cut at Haydock since. Admittedly he is not in cracking form and has not been given much rope by the handicapper, but he can still go well. But our idea of the winner here is Secret Pact.
