A big field for us to consider here and despite top weight we fancy that Aleron can get us off on a good note, with Fort Churchill and Mr Mischief also likely to go well. Aleron is due to go up 1lb soon, and will be suited by today's conditions, having won with plenty of juice in the ground in the past. The gelding races off a mark just 2lb higher here than when last winning, at Newcastle in May. He stays this trip well and looks capable of producing enough to see off a field where there are questions about many of them. Fort Churchill could potentially be very well treated here after some solid efforts so far and shrewd judge Mark Tompkins may feel he has found a good opportunity for the three-year-old. However, he has to prove that he genuinely handles cut in the ground and so he is passed over until we are sure of that. Many of the others don't seem to be in love with soft ground, but Mr Mischief may prove the exception. Patrick Haslam's charge has already finished placed on good to soft and is a winner on the slow ground on the fibresand, so with stamina proven for this trip he could go very close. Even so, he has had a fairly long break now and so we just prefer Aleron to defy his welter burden.
