Verdict
Madaares has proven to be expensive to follow but may be worth one more chance stepping into this grade for the first time and gets the vote ahead of Hartshead and Serieux. The last mentioned has been difficult to win with this term but showed signs of a revival behind First Love last time and the David Nicholls-trained gelding has every chance of reversing that form. H Harrison has claims on his best form but is inconsistent, while Heureux has struggled since winning at York last term and a better bet may be Hartshead. Alan Swinbank's gelding showed signs of a revival when chasing home Flipando at Newcastle last time and has to be respected on that evidence but Alan Swinbank's gelding may struggle to give weight away to Madaares, who is taken to open his account.
