        Verdict

        Malaaq has plenty of speed on the sire's side of his pedigree being by Green Desert and may appreciate the drop to the minimum trip, especially having seemingly found little late on over Pontefract's stiff six furlongs last time, and is preferred to Golden Topaz and Frontline In Focus. The last mentioned takes the eye on pedigree but trainer Karl Burke is hardly known for his great success with first time out two-year-olds. Tim Easterby's Durova showed only a modicum of ability on her debut but the yard's youngsters normally improve for their first start so there should be more to come. Valley of The Moon stepped up on her debut effort when a creditable close fourth behind Wi Dud at York last time and she has to be respected on that effort, while Howard Johnson's Golden Topaz is bred to be useful but lacks a previous run. Malaaq certainly has the best form in the book and she gets the vote in the hope that the drop back in distance is to her advantage.
