Verdict

Both Mount Benger and Sun King have some solid form in this grade however it may pay to take a chance on a horse dropping in class today, namely RANDOM NATIVE. Nicky Richards' gelding is now eleven years of age and it has perhaps started to show in recent races. His two starts this year have been slightly lacklustre but he is dropped in class today and is also expected to appreciate this drop in trip. He went close at Ayr over two miles in November, and receiving at least a stone from his main rivals he looks poised to run well. Sun King comes here on the back of a respectable third at Catterick over further. He does have form over this trip, has won at the track before, and is not impossibly treated at these weights today. Top-weight Mount Benger has won under big weights in the past but even so, the prospect of carrying 12-8 must still be a worry. His amateur is decent, but the ground is also a lot quicker than he has faced recently and he is yet to win on quicker than good to soft. At a price Caulkleys Bank, a course and distance winner, could run well as he drops back in trip, however it is Random Native who is nominated in the opener.
