Verdict

An ordinary conditional handicap is made all the more fascinating by the presence of MINELLA FIVEO, dispatched to the Lake District from the Newmarket base of John Butler, a yard known to enjoy a tilt at the ring. The six-year-old had very useful Irish form before joining his new stable, since when he's had just the one run when highly tried in a Cheltenham novice hurdle won by King's Palace last October. He could have far too much class for these rivals if ready with the market likely to indicate stable confidence. Smart Ruler hails from a local yard and looks the best alternative if things go awry with the Newmarket raider as he's been very solid in fair handicap company since landing maiden and novice hurdles last term. Plan Again hasn't built on a Kelso win last autumn but it's still early days with him and the consistent Snowed In is a possible off bottomweight.
