Boruma has been in fine form this summer, winning consecutive races over course and distance but will need to improve again off a career-high mark, as will Nautical Nitwit and the admirable Petrou, who is bidding for a fifth consecutive victory. Gran Maestro hasn’t looked like getting his nose in front this year despite slipping to a handy mark and Doubly Clever didn’t have much in hand when winning at Worcester earlier this month so may struggle to follow up off his new mark. In a wide open race, preference is for ROYAL VILLAGE. He is making his handicap debut after two wins in novice company, but there should be plenty more to come from this five-year-old who appeared to relish this sort of trip at Worcester. Cleni Wells won a decent handicap at Newton Abbot last time and has realistic place claims.
