Plenty of prize money up for grabs here and it’s brought together a decent field for the time of year. Six of the nine runners are previous course winners with Alderbrook Lad, successful 12 months ago when beating Morning Royalty off a 4lb lower mark, bidding for a fifth win on the track. Running Wolf and Mercers Court could give a boost to Princeton Royale’s Fakenham win earlier on the card but he steps up a grade for this. Hammersly Lake showed signs of resurgence at Uttoxeter in May and was well ahead of WADSWICK COURT. But Peter Bowen’s charge didn’t give his true running at the Midlands track and has since finished strongly over a trip too short at Stratford. James Bowen is back on board for the first time since he won at Perth in April. Sizing Platinum looks a few pounds too high but won’t be far away and Shantou Village also adds to the interest. Martha’s Benefit won here on Friday but is a long way out of the handicap, despite picking up a penalty.
Hammersly Lake (FR) 33-1 (11-12) Mid-division, headway on inside 9th, not fluent 3 out, went 3rd last, stayed on, 3rd of 17, 3l behind Drumcliff (10-12) at Uttoxeter 2m 4f hcp (2) gd in May.
Sizing Platinum (IRE) 10-3 (11-11) Tracked leader, led 13th, ridden and headed last, kept on and no chance with winner, 2nd of 8, 4 1/2l behind Cut The Corner (10-9) at Newton Abbot 2m 5f hcp (2) gd in May.
Shantou Village (IRE) 10-1 (11-5) Held up towards rear, headway before 3 out, no impression next, 8th of 17, 10 1/4l behind Drumcliff (10-12) at Uttoxeter 2m 4f hcp (2) gd in May.
Princeton Royale (IRE) 5-2jfav (12-2) Made all, drew clear after 2 out, very easily, eased closing stages, won at Fakenham 3m hcp (3) gd in Jun beating Running Wolf (10-11) by 5l, 5 ran.
Wadswick Court (IRE) 8-1 (11-11) Held up in touch, struggling 4 out, 5th and plenty to do 2 out, soon ridden, rallied between last 2, 4 lengths down in 2nd last, stayed on to press winner flat, held towards finish, 2nd of 6, 2 1/2l behind Cut The Corner (11-12) at Stratford 2m 1f hcp (2) gd in Jun.
Alderbrook Lad (IRE) 3-1 (10-12) Tracked leader, led 5th to 7th, with leader, led again narrowly after 5 out, clear last, always in command after, driven and stayed on well flat, won at Cartmel 2m 5f hcp (3) gd in May beating Miss Crick (11-6) by 11l, 5 ran.
Morning Royalty (IRE) 9-2 (10-11) Held up towards rear, outpaced after 3 out, ridden after last, stayed on to take modest 4th towards finish, never troubled leaders, 4th of 8, 13l behind Allbarnone (10-0) at Cartmel 3m 1f hcp (2) gd in May.
Allbarnone 7-1 (10-0) Mid-division, tracked leaders 7th, driven and outpaced after 2 out, went 3rd at last, ridden and stayed on well to lead final 110 yards, going away towards finish, won at Cartmel 3m 1f hcp (2) gd in May beating The Tourard Man (11-12) by 2 1/4l, 8 ran.
Martha's Benefit (IRE) 7-4fav (11-11) Chased leaders, lost place 3rd, headway on inside 3 out, led on last bend, soon clear, stayed on, won at Cartmel 2m 5f hcp (5) gf in Jun beating Fit For Fifty (10-10) by 4 1/2l, 10 ran.
