If CARLITO BRIGANTE can get back to anywhere near his former glories there can only be one winner. The former Gordon Elliott star has run at Aintree and Cheltenham on his first two starts for new connections and this represents a significant drop in class. Storming Gale hasn't been in the best of form since scoring at Ayr around a year ago and finished tailed off at Newcastle last time so it could be Billy Cuckoo who gives the selection most to think about. He scored on good to soft going at Doncaster in February and may have found the ground too testing in subsequent starts. Stagecoach Pearl was well supported at Kelso last time but disappointed and was behind Lucky Landing at Wetherby in October. The latter has been competing at a much higher level and his rider's claim can see him go well.
Lucky Landing (IRE) 66-1 (10-5) Always behind, blundered 11th (foinavon), weakened 2 out, tailed off, 16th of 30, well behind Ma Filleule (11-7) at Aintree 2m 5f hcp chs G3 (1) gs.
Carlito Brigante (IRE) 40-1 (11-5) In touch before 3rd, well beaten approaching 2 out, 18th of 24, well behind Don Poli (11-5) at Cheltenham 2m 4f (2) gd in Mar.
Stagecoach Pearl 7-2fav (11-7) Led, left clear at 3rd, headed 2 out (usual 3 out), weakened before last, 5th of 7, 24l behind Jet Master (11-10) at Kelso 2m 1f hcp chs 0-135 (3) gd in Mar.
Storming Gale (IRE) 5-2 (11-12) Held up in touch, slow 8th, under pressure 5 out, soon tailed off, moderate 4th, last of 4, well behind Categorical (11-2) at Newcastle 2m 4f hcp chs 0-130 (3) sft in Mar.
Billy Cuckoo (IRE) 10-1 (11-6) Tracked winner, not fluent 8th, ridden before 2 out, soon lost 2nd place and weakened, 3rd of 6, 13l behind Galway Jack (11-10) at Southwell 2m 4f hcp chs 0-135 (3) sft in Mar.
