Verdict

A potentially trappy little contest this, with the vote going to Altareek to see them home, though we anticipate decent efforts from Huka Lodge and top weight Icy River. The selection performed well in first time blinkers last time, when beaten just over five lengths into second at Fakenham, and as long as the application of the hoods again here does not reduce their effect, he should be able to go well. Bang-in-form Graham Lee takes the mount on Malcolm Jefferson's charge, and as one who has performed creditably with some but, he can improve on that recent seasonal debut and take this. It is likely to be significant that of the Len Lungo-trained pair here, Tony Dobbin has chosen to ride Huka Lodge. A look at his form last season would not have you rushing to place your money on him, but his connections have an excellent record here, reintroduce him fresh to the game, and being by Roselier he will appreciate the rains, so we expect a much improved effort here. Of the others, the stand out is top weight Icy River. Proven over this trip, and with a decent seasonal reappearance over course and distance in the plus column, he looks sure to be bang there, though he has been well beaten both times he has run with cut in the ground, and so he is just overlooked here, but not discounted lightly. However, we have to make a choice and Altareek is the one to be on here.
